Vermont Sojourners Conduct Building of the Flag Service
At Church of One of The Four Chaplains on Memorial Day

A "Building of the Flag" Team of Sojourners From Vermont Chapter 527,
Heroes of 76 brought their presentation to a very significant location
on Memorial Day 2010. It was the church of one of the famous "Four
Chaplains." George Lansing Fox who along with three other Military
Chaplains went down on the troop ship Dorchester during World War II
was a Vermont Freemason and served as pastor of a small church in East
Concord, Vermont. Fox had served as a Chaplain in World War I and
volunteered to return to duty in World War II. The Chaplains gave their
life jackets to other soldiers so that they could survive. He and the
other three Chaplains were posthumously awarded both the Distinguished
Service Cross and the Purple Heart.
Each year on Memorial Day the East Concord, Vermont Methodist Church
hosts a service commemorating the Chaplains and all veterans past and
present.
The "Building of the Flag" Team was comprised of Bernard (Skins)
Watkins, Evered Hinkley, Thomas MacPhee, Past Commander, and Calvin
Keyler, Past Commander.
